Meet the Keynote Speaker:
Courtney Kennedy, '91
Courtney Kennedy graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics. In the following years, she earned a Master of Arts in Electro-Acoustic Music from Dartmouth College, where she developed expertise in digital audio and began a career writing software for media products. Courtney worked for eight years as a software engineer at Avid Technology, contributing to their Emmy and Oscar winning video editing product, Media Composer. While working at Avid, Courtney earned an M.B.A. from Babson College in the evenings. In 2005, Courtney moved west to the San Francisco Bay Area. Shortly thereafter, she was hired by Apple as an engineering manager. She worked at Apple for nine years, managing teams that contributed to the media functionality in macOS, iOS, tvOS, QuickTime Player, iMovie and iTunes. While at Apple, she became an expert in media accessibility technologies and led the effort to support subtitles, closed captions and audio descriptions across all of Apple’s products. Courtney joined Netflix in 2017. She manages a team of engineers who develop the video player inside the Netflix App on Smart TVs, setup boxes, streaming sticks and game consoles. Her team collaborates with others across the company to continually update and improve the Netflix experience for viewers. In her free time, Courtney enjoys hiking, traveling and exploring the Bay Area. She continues her lifelong love of music by playing guitar and singing.

Nurse Practitioner with the Lymphoma Team at Mass General Hospital Cancer Center; worked as an Inpatient Bone Marrow Transplant/Leukemia Registered Nurse. Graduated from Holy Cross with a Bachelor of Arts in Math. Received both a Bachelors of Science in Nursing and Masters of Science in Nursing from Mass General Institute of Health Professions.

Pediatrician at Pediatricians INC in Winchester, MA. Graduated Summa Cum Laude from Holy Cross with a Bachelor of Arts in Math. Received her M.D. from Georgetown Medical School in 2002 and completed her residency at Tufts Floating Hospital for Children from 2002-2006.

Nurse Practitioner in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Graduated from Holy Cross with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry before going on to graduate from Yale University with a Masters of Science in Nursing in 2014.

Neonatologist and Director of Medical Education for the NICU at the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center; Clinical Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine. Graduated from Holy Cross with a bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Minor in Neuroscience. Received her M.D. from the University of Vermont Medical School in 2005 and completed a Pediatric Residency and Neonatology Fellowship at Umass Memorial Hospital by 2012.

CEO, co-founder of Hydroglide Coatings, LLC, a medical devide coating company initiated from a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Grand Exploration Challenge; lead inventor of multiple patents; published over 6 research articles in peer-reviewed journals. Graduated from Holy Cross with a B.A. in Chemistry. Received her doctorate from Boston University and focused on translating research from the “benchside-to-bedside.”
Mindy Moynihan
('88)
Chemistry teacher at Shrewsbury High School. Graduated with a B.A. in Chemistry from Holy Cross, then began her career as an organic chemistry lab supervisor at Holy Cross before becoming a research assistant at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. Went on to earn a Masters in Education at the University of Hartford. Following this, she pursued a career in teaching, including serving as adjunct faculty at Quinsigamond Community College.

Kristin Birtwell
('07)
Clinical Psychologist at the Lurie Center at Mass General Hospital; Assistant in Psychology and Pediatrics at MGH; Instructor at Harvard Medical School. Received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Suffolk University. Specializes in neuropsychological evaluation and treatment of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related conditions, and in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety and emotion regulation.
Nancy Cook
('76)
Professor at the Brigham & Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School; Professor of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Her methodologic efforts focus on the predictive modeling of observational data and developing risk prediction scores for cardiovascular disease using clinical biomarkers. Served on committees for the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, American Heart Association, and National Academy of Medicine. Graduated in the first class of women at Holy Cross with a major in mathematics. Received her M.S. in Biostatistics and Epidemiology and ScD in Biostatistics from the Harvard School of Public Health
Sheila Namirembe

Organic Chemistry Ph.D. candidate at Boston College. Her Ph.D. studies are focused towards developing new reaction methodologies and the total synthesis of biologically active compounds. More specifically, developing catalytic and enantioselective methodology to synthetically useful Boron containing motifs. Graduated from Holy Cross with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry.
Elizabeth Luoma ('09)
Director of the STEM Education Program at the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning at Yale University; Assistant Director of Women's Health Research at Yale; fellow and undergraduate advisor in Silliman College at Yale; instructor for Yale’s Pathways to Science Course for local high school students; member of the advisory board for CourseSource, an open-access, peer-reviewed journal of college biology teaching resources. Graduated as Valedictorian from Holy Cross with a B.A. in Biology and concentration in biochemistry. Completed her Ph.D. in cell biology at Yale studying cell adhesion in the Calderwood lab.

Jennifer Beaudoin ('09)
Senior Research Associate in the Process Chemistry group at Moderna and focused on method development and purification optimization for GMP. Worked in both early stage startups as well as larger organizations over the past ten years. Her past experience includes library design, medicinal chemistry, LNPs, and process scale up. Graduated from Holy Cross in 2009 with a major in Chemistry, concentrating in Pre-Med, and was a member of the Holy Cross Women’s Crew team.
Michelle Hoarty ('09)
Senior Manager for Clinical Science & Biomarker at the Clinical Development group; currently responsible for the pharmacodynamic, pharmacokinetic, pharmacogenomic and biomarker data across all completed and current Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 clinical trials at Ra Pharmaceuticals for their C5 inhibitor, zilucoplan. Graduated as a Biology major from Holy Cross in 2009 and then went on to receive her master’s degree in Biology and Biotechnology from WPI in 2011. Worked at Ra Pharmaceuticals, a small biotechnology start-up in Cambridge, as an assay development scientist in the Target Biology group, where she designed and performed the cell-based and biochemical assays needed for all projects, later developing the pharmacodynamic assays needed for the animal studies. She then went on to design and oversee the validation of these assays for use in human clinical trials.

Jennifer Kickham ('93)
Works at Massachusetts General Hospital
Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, is the Medical Director Yawkey 4 Ambulatory Gynecology, and an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. Graduated from Holy Cross with a B.A. in Biology and a minor in Women's Studies. Later went on to study at University of Texas Medical School in Houston in 1998 before completing a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at NYU Medical Center in 2002.

Katie Benning ('90)
Graduated from Holy Cross in 1990 with a B.A. in Psychology before going on to complete a Post Baccalaureate Premedical Program at Tufts University in 1994. Later graduated from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1999.
She completed a Family Medicine Residency Program at Somerset Medical Center, an affiliate of University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in 2002.
She is curently working as a Family Physician at South Shore Medical Center, an ambulatory setting in Norwell, Massachusetts, since 2011.
Also, she took a nontraditional pathway into medicine and was working in those gap periods noted above.
